1. What was the vision behind Bar Allora's design, and how did you bring the Italian futurism, with a touch of nostalgia, to life in a Sydney CBD space?

Sian: Working within the overarching concept by WE ARE EXAMPLE, the design draws on the theatrical spirit of Italian Futurism, where bold gestures, rich colour and layered textures create an atmosphere that feels charged with energy. Red velvet curtains, warm lighting, and offbeat details set the tone for a space that is as much about spectacle as it is about hospitality.

Balancing nostalgia and modernity, the interiors echo the intimacy of traditional Milanese cafés while amplifying it with contemporary vibrancy. Our goal was to create a space that feels both modern and electric. The introduction of Eurowalls cork wallpaper added a rich, patina’d texture, providing the perfect backdrop for artworks and objects.

2. How did you land on our Cement Silver Cork Wallpaper to anchor the space?

Sian: Texture was essential, but it couldn't shout over the art. We needed a finish with a high-quality, aged feel to bridge the gap to the original sandstone. The silver-specked cork was the perfect find; adding grit, character, and a soft glow that plays off the high-gloss red tiles. It’s a simple way to turn a plain wall into a design feature.

3. What are some of your favourite key features of the space and why?

Sian: We love the cork walls and the way they display a collection of art and objects that tell a story. The bar design is equally a favourite, as well as the red terrazzo standing bar. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a spritz and watch the world go by on George Street

4. You mixed bold textures and finishes throughout. What advice do you have for people who want to be brave with layers and contrasts while keeping everything feeling cohesive and inviting?

Sian: From a design perspective, start with your hero colour (in our case, red) and find finishes that either complement or strongly contrast it. Always collect samples to see how they work together; this will form a clear palette to work with. When it comes to styling, there are no hard and fast rules; it’s about adding layers that feel personal and tell your story. You may find that a choice which isn't traditionally 'harmonious' works in a different sense, perhaps adding to the story or showcasing history of the brand of venue.

5. What was your experience like working with Eurowalls, and why did you choose them for this project?

Sian: Eurowalls were great to work with! They promptly answered our questions around purchasing and compliance, and sent samples so we could choose the best colourway for the space. We very much look forward to working with them again.
